As a Palestinian American, born and raised in the U.S. Virgin Islands, I never truly felt like I belonged or fit in with those around me during my upbringing, and that took a heavy toll on me. However, after years of healing and self discovery,I have connected with my faith in Islam and made the decision to wear the hijab. Although, this decision was not easy, the moment I put it on I felt a sense of confidence from within and I finally felt like I was free. With each passing day wearing the hijab, I've come to understand the significance of modesty, a value that resonates deeply with me. This is why the symbolism of butterflies holds such profound meaning for me—it represents not only my personal journey but also the hardships I've endured. Like the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly, I've emerged from my cocoon stronger and more beautiful than before.
